Kala Ashram founded in 1979 by Shri Ravindra Sharma was fondly known as ‘Guruji’ is a melting pot of culture, heritage, India's rural social economics, art, science, and anything that is associated with India and the way of life that was naturally led by people here.

Karigar gurukuls or artisans’ workshops for artisans are organized every year when artisans come here and try to improve upon their techniques and also pass on the tricks of the trade to the younger generation and to those belonging to other communities. Guruji does a lot of research on the traditional social organization. He has documented the dying art of the Bhikshavruttis who sing or verbalize the history of other castes. He has planned to document his comprehension of traditional arts, science, technology and social organization as well as the many activities at Kalashram.

In Kalashram, there is a huge collection of artifacts. There is silk embroidered work of the Mathurias, various wooden deities, ceremonial headdresses of the Gonds, jewelry in cast silver or brass, local tools, implements, household vessels and musical instruments. Some of these are old pieces collected by Ravindra Sharma and others have been commissioned to be made in the traditional way.
