The statue has a museum inside it, which consists of sculptures depicting Buddhist significance. The eight pillars signifies path for salvation followed by Buddha, four zones for noble truths and five ayaka pillars for stages of life
Interestingly Lord Dhyana Buddha taught the first Kalachakra root tantra here in Amaravati to King Suchindra upon his request. This allowed the king to practice the Dharma without renouncing his worldly enjoyments and responsibilities.
You can also visit the Undavalli Caves which were sculpted in the 2nd and 3rd century AD. In one of the caves you can see Sri Ananta Padmanabha Swamy, which is a five-meter long reclining statue carved out of single granite block.
